We're so excited to welcome you to Gabby's hometown of Sydney. It's a huge city with plenty to explore, so we've created a collection of our favourite places to stay, eat, drink, and explore!
For our overseas guests flying in, Sydney Kingsford Smith Airport is our main airport, located about 20–30 minutes from the city centre. Once you land, you can take a taxi, Uber, or train to your accommodation.
Some hot tips:
If you're travelling domestically in Australia, our main carriers are Jetstar, Virgin Australia, and Qantas.
Most of the wedding events will be taking place around Sydney City and the Eastern Suburbs so we recommend staying around these areas. We personally recommend staying in Bondi Beach for its walkability, amazing cafes and restaurants, proximity to the wedding events, and of course, that iconic coastline.
We've coordinated special rate codes with two of the below hotels but please feel free to stay at your preferred hotel or Airbnb.
Sydney is a spread-out but well-connected city. From trains to buses, ferries to Ubers, the best way to get around depends on where you're staying and where you're heading.
Sydney's public transport can get you to most places and is especially great through the city centre. Ferries are one of the loveliest ways to see Sydney, especially around the harbour, so we highly recommend taking one while you're here — even if it's just for the view.
Google Maps can help you with most routes, but TripView Lite is an amazing app to help you see train, bus and ferry times in advance to help plan your route.
For all public transport, we use the Opal system but there's no need to buy a travel card. You can tap to pay with your phone, just like the subway. But remember to TAP OFF once you arrive at your destination station (to make sure you don't get charged for the longest distance fare).
Ubers will be your best way to get a car around Sydney. We don't have Lyft in Australia but another great rideshare option is Didi. Taxis are a great option from the airport and readily available around the city centre.
For the wedding day itself, we'll share more detailed transport notes closer to the date so everyone knows exactly where to be and when.
Sydney has some of the most iconic coastal walks that make for the perfect day activity, photo moment and opportunity to stop off for a swim at any point! Our faves are:
The most famous Sydney coastal walk! Start your journey in South Bondi at Icebergs, and follow the path through Tamarama to Bronte. Turn back here for a 5km loop back to Bondi, or continue on through Clovelly to end at Coogee.
An easy trail with stunning views of Sydney’s harbour, islands and icons. Start at Bayview Hill Road and finish at Nielsen Park, where you can swim and grab a coffee and snack at Nielsen Park Café.
Take the harbour ferry to Manly Beach. Gabby grew up coming to this beach, which has a great mix of cafes, restaurants and a scenic walk to Shelly Beach, where you can grab a drink at The Boathouse.
Sydney Harbour Bridge is iconic for a reason. If you dare, BridgeClimb is one sure way to get the most unforgettable views of the harbour. If heights aren’t your thing, walk across the pedestrian path and end in Milson’s Point for amazing views back at the city and Opera House.
The Rocks is Sydney’s oldest neighbourhood, packed with sandstone laneways, historic pubs, weekend markets, and harbour viewpoints.
Taronga Zoo Sydney combines Australian wildlife with one of the world’s most spectacular zoo settings overlooking Sydney Harbour. The ferry from Circular Quay goes directly to the zoo and is just a 12 minute ride!
Royal Botanic Garden Sydney is especially beautiful in spring. Walk to Mrs Macquarie’s Chair for one of Sydney’s classic skyline photo spots.
If you have a bit longer in Sydney and are up for a drive, the Blue Mountains National Park makes an excellent day trip. Visit Echo Point, the Three Sisters, The Scenic Railway, waterfalls, bushwalking trails, and the nearby town of Leura.
How can we not start here? The restaurant above the iconic beachside pool. Great for lunch and a view.
Gabby’s favourite way to spend a Saturday morning. The markets are open every Saturday til around 1pm and feature local food stalls as well as flowers and trinkets. Fave spots include the bakeries (all amazing!!) and the Israeli food at Basta.
A Sydney Italian staple! Great food, great vibes! Must get the puffy bread. Original location is in Bondi but they have one in the city too! This is a good one to book a reservation in advance.
As close as you can get to having a bite on the beach. Classic Aussie cafe for all day brekkie/brunch and coffees.
Another Shofer fave! Hard to describe exactly what it is but picture a foldover Italian flatbread with creative fillings. The Brutus is our fave.
Classic Aussie brunch cafe.
One stop jew-ish deli style cafe.
Sydney’s version of Erewhon and Happier Grocery. Smoothies are 10/10.
Likely the best burger in Bondi and possibly, Sydney’s East. So Gabby has heard… Try it for yourselves and let me know :)
Great pan asian restaurant featuring funky sushi in a gorgeous setting.
Established by famous Aussie chef Bill Granger, this is a classic all day spot. Get the ricotta hotcakes if you go for brekkie/brunch!
Small, market-driven restaurant with tasting menus, set meals, and surf views.
Take a note from the name, this is one of the most iconic restaurants in Sydney, both for the view and the service. One of our favourites for a celebration!
An iconic architectural gem inside the Opera House - must book! Can get a book a seat at the bar if you want a shorter experience.
Great spot in Sydney city, now has a rooftop too! Best crispy felafel!
Famous two-storey Cantonese restaurant in Sydney's Bridge Lane. The chef who started Chinese Tuxedo and The Tyger in NYC was previously here.
Middle Eastern restaurant in the city, every dish is great.
Incredible bakery and fun morning spot.
Institution coffee shop and classic neighbourhood cafe.
Some of the best cafe food by the same team as Room Ten and just across the road.
Incredible coffee! Locations in Paddington & Darlinghurst.
Beloved contemporary Greek taverna in the heart of Potts Point. Get the Saganaki.
One of Sydney's most influential restaurants centred around a woodfired oven that roasts oysters, whole poultry and more.
By the same team as Ester, equally incredible food.
A charming neighbourhood Italian trattoria and subterranean wine cellar.

Iconic for a reason, a MUST! Sit outside by the Opera House and enjoy the enchanting views. Often has live music.
Super unique 1920s-themed cocktail bar in a vaulted brick basement.
Late night underground music bar with live bands and DJ sets.
If you’re missing home, this is an Americana bar in the heart of Sydney's CBD. Classic southern-style eats and whiskey cocktails paired with live country and rock’n’roll.
15000 vinyl records, a premium sound system and Japanese snacks.
Sydney is very good for natural wine and this is one of the best places to drink it. Food is top notch too. The pretzel with whipped bottarga is an iconic Sydney dish.

We recommend arriving in Sydney on Thursday so you can join us for our Welcome Day Party on Friday!
Remember that you lose a day in transit en route to Australia from the US, so if you leave on Tuesday evening, you'll arrive Thursday morning. The nice part is you'll get it back on the way home! If you leave Australia on Monday, you'll get back to the US on Monday too!

Most international guests will need a visa or travel authorization before entering Australia. For our U.S. guests, this is typically an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA), which can be applied for through the official Australian ETA app.
We recommend checking the entry requirements for your passport and applying well ahead of time. The ETA is linked digitally to your passport, so make sure you apply using the passport you'll be traveling with.
November is one of the loveliest times to be in Sydney. It’s late spring, so you can usually expect warm days with a cool breeze in the evenings. We recommend packing some light layers just in case, especially for evenings by the water.
We’d love everyone to dress to impress! Think formal with a twist — have fun with it.
Tuxes are welcome, but absolutely not required; suits are great too! For the ladies, long dresses or dressy sets are perfect. Ultimately, we want you to wear what you feel best (and ready to dance) in!
The ceremony and reception are just a short walk apart, with a beautiful route through The Domain. After the ceremony, guests can make their way across the park to the reception venue.
We feel so lucky to have you traveling all this way to celebrate with us. Your presence truly is the greatest gift, and we don’t expect anything more.
